After your baby is born, don’t worry about routines and rituals for at least a month. As you learn to read your baby’s cues, many routines will evolve naturally. You can help your baby understand her world with simple rituals. For instance, use dim lights, a sweet song, and a yummy feed before putting your baby to bed and you’ll quickly boost sleep.
Young babies benefit from short rituals and flexible routines. Another example of a ritual that signals to your baby ‘okay, it’s time for sleep’ is a kiss, hug, and a nose rub every single time before putting your baby in bed.
There are different routines, such as eat, play, and then bedtime or eat, bedtime, and then play. There isn’t a right or wrong routine. Let your baby guide you on which routine fits best. Then you can develop little rituals that helps your baby understand what’s coming.
